The Kid With a Bike
After a young boy (“Cyril”) is abandoned by his father he’s left into state care. He’s desperate to be reunited with his Dad and refuses to believe that his “father” does not actually care about him at all. Through all of this he begins a friendship with a new foster parent (“Samantha”) and the film follows their attempts to bond.
This was a French film with English subtitles and was very, very good – especially the performance of Cyril. It was enjoyable and enthralling from start to finish and just shows how good cinema can be on such a low budget. Thank goodness for Queen’s Film Theatre at the moment as Hollywood is just not doing it at the moment and if it wasn’t for these types of films on show there would be absolutely nothing worth bothering about.
